This thing that we call democracy, it doesn’t just happen. Apathy is toxic to true democracy. How can Ann Wagner, in the name of democracy, be 800 miles from her district campaigning for another candidate when she is not even exercising her civic duty to participate in a non-partisan forum in her own district in Missouri? At the least she is being apathetic to the needs of her constituents; at worst she is engaging in an act of subterfuge to democracy.
I do not like to speak that harshly about anyone. Nothing would make me happier than if Ms. Wagner picked up the phone now and called the League of Women Voters to say that she has made time to participate in the candidate forum. If she decides at the last moment, she can just walk on in to the Student Center at Meramec Community College.
Even without Ms. Wagner, the forum is going to be good as we have an evening of thoughtful and hopefully lively discussion about how a Libertarian would tackle our nation’s problems and how a progressive Democrat would. On our end, we’re going to do everything we can to make it a fun evening. We hope that as many of you as possible can be in attendance.
Again, the forum is at Meramec Community College, 11333 Big Bend Blvd.; 63122 (map). It is on the Second Floor of the Student Center Building. (directions). You can park in the staff parking lots to the west of the building.
We hope to see you there, and if any of you have magical powers, or just the power of logic and responsibility, perhaps you can find a way for Ms. Wagner to appear.
